Lumbr

About Lumbr

Lumbr is a directory for buyers who need specialty lumber — woodworkers sourcing figured slabs, builders speccing reclaimed beams, architects looking for custom millwork, or homeowners hunting a one-off mantelpiece. We index small and mid-size sawmills, kiln-dried lumber suppliers, millwork shops, live-edge slab galleries, and reclaimed-wood dealers across the US.

Lumbr is not a marketplace, not an auction platform, and not a big-box retailer. We do not sell lumber, take commissions, or charge vendors to list. We are a structured directory — closer in spirit to a trade publication's supplier guide than to Etsy or Home Depot.

Our methodology

Public information only
We collect information that vendors publish publicly — on their own websites, in trade association member directories, and in publicly accessible business registrations. We respect robots.txt on every domain we visit. Login-gated, private, or member-only content is never accessed.
Provenance
Every fact in a vendor profile — address, phone, category, species — is traceable to a specific source URL and a collection timestamp. We do not infer or fabricate details; if a field cannot be confirmed from a public source, it is left blank.
Freshness
Profiles are refreshed on a rolling cadence. Each record carries a freshness score reflecting how recently its data was verified. Stale records are flagged internally and prioritised for re-collection before the next publication cycle.
Confidence scoring
Our pipeline attaches a confidence score to each record. Vendors whose profiles fall below our publication threshold are held in a review queue and not shown publicly until a human reviewer confirms the data is accurate and the business is genuinely a specialty lumber supplier.
Human review
A sample of the directory is hand-checked before each publication wave. Reviewers verify that the business still operates, that categories are correctly assigned, and that no sensitive or private information has been inadvertently included.

Regional scope

The current pilot covers 11 Southeast US states with 4631 verified vendors: North Carolina , South Carolina , Virginia , Georgia , Tennessee , Kentucky , Alabama , Florida , West Virginia , Mississippi , Arkansas .

National rollout is planned as the methodology and infrastructure mature. Priority is accurate, well-sourced coverage in a defined region before expanding breadth.

Data sources

  • Google Places and Maps API (business name, address, phone, category)
  • Trade and industry association member directories (publicly listed members only)
  • Search engine APIs and web crawls (vendor websites, public pages only)
  • Vendor websites — product pages, species lists, and about pages that are publicly accessible

We do not purchase third-party data lists, access aggregated PII databases, or use scraped data from platforms that prohibit it in their terms of service.
